Have you ever tried snowshoeing? In Northern Michigan, the sport of snowshoeing is quite popular for those who prefer to stay off the ski slopes! Snowshoeing is a way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air, grab some sun rays and escape the sedentary nature that comes with winter.

Snowshoeing started out with just modified slabs of wood and has changed into the sport that it is today.

The State of Michigan has many different snowshoe events around the state for you to enjoy all winter long -including snowshoeing at Tahquamenon Falls! At the Sleepy Hollow State Park you can learn how to weave a pair of traditional wooden snowshoes.

In Traverse City, you can participate in the Bigfoot 5K & 10K races, where all of the participants run the terrain in snowshoes! This event already happened for the year, but it shows how serious Michigan is about their outdoor activities!

If you’ve never been snowshoeing before, look into attending one of the events above to test it out - you might find out that you love it.
