Mackinac Island Biking

It’s so fun to come to Mackinac Island and bike around the 8.2 M-185 loop. But have you ever ventured off the well-beaten path to find something inside the island? If you don’t know where to start, we have a bicycle loop that will help you see more of the inside of the island!

Start at Fort Mackinac and head up the hill there- if you have to walk your bike up the hill here, don’t feel bad, it’s very steep and most people have to take a breather on the way up.  As you continue up Garrison Road, you will come upon Skull Cave, where you will want to stop for a photo op!

After Skull Cave, bike on to Fort Holmes, the highest point on the island. Swing around to Point Lookout, where you can see out for miles! If you look straight in front of you, you will be able to see Sugar Loaf Mountain. If you want to take a break from the bike riding, walk down the steps to get a closer look at Sugar Loaf Mountain.

After Point Lookout, you will reach Morning Snack Trail, which is a little bit of a difficult trail and not meant for the typical island cruiser, so be prepared! Morning Snack Trail will loop onto Beechwood Trail, taking you back to Garrison Road. Continue on back into town the way you came, or head the opposite way towards British Landing!

At British Landing, you can watch an amazing sunset lakeside. After watching the sunset on the lake, bike back into town where you started!

Get off the well beaten path of M-185 and try something new for a change! After you do, be sure to let us know what you thought of this inside loop!
